Design Bertjan Pot, 2008
Polystyrene, metal, upholstery
Made in Holland by Montis

A beanbag sits and fits like a glove. The polystyrene bead filling adjusts to any sitting position. Bertjan Pot with Lazy Bastard combines the casualness of a beanbag with the comfort of a lounge chair. He placed the beanbag as it were on legs, in a smooth outer shape that contains the flexible contents. Lazy Bastard allows for extra comfortable sitting as its seat is higher and fitted with armrests. The specially designed fabric gives the beanbag chair a relaxed look and touch that will particularly appeal to the youth, as well as the price tag will.

Bertjan Pot is a designer of mostly furniture and lighting. His methods are concentrated in his interest in skins of the structural and non-structural kind. He studied at the Design Academy Eindhoven. He considers theory as something to think about and something to discuss when not designing. ?"When it comes to designing one should just design without being blocked by too many theories."

Lazy Bastard is available in your choice of upholstery and matte black legs and have soft synthetic caps. Polyester bead filling can be refilled.

Bertjan Pot

Bertjan Pot (b. 1975) of the Netherlands focuses in the material and production processes. He enjoys computer aesthetics and industrial production methods, but arrives at them without using them as a design tool. Almost all of his designs come from experiments in materials. His results often display merely the skin of his chosen material, creating translucence in his lighting and furniture, such as his popular Carbon Chair, Random Light, Random Chair, or Knitted lamp. In the case of the Random Light, a resin drained yarn is randomly coiled around and inflatable beach ball, creating a translucent 3D fabric. The ball is then deflated and extracted from a round opening in the lamp, leaving only the ôskin.ö
Montis was established in 1974 and quickly focused on modern design with superior seating comfort. The Montis collection stands out with unique color combinations and with their use of various leathers. The company set itself apart from its competitors and achieves high comfort by often applying upholstery to a chair, which was often disregarded in a movement that usually stripped furniture to its essentials. Their techniques came to be regarded as distinctly Dutch.
