Design Poul Kjaerholm, 1967
Chromed spring steel, leather
Made in Denmark by Fritz Hansen

The PK20 is a laidback and elegant easy chair by Poul Kjaerholm for Fritz Hansen. It has a high back with a matching headrest and sits on a flexible, matte-chromed spring steel base. The PK20 is true to Kjaerholm's elegant style and unmatched quality.

Poul Kjærholm had a particular interest in various construction materials; especially steel, which he considered a natural material. He was a trained carpenter who continued studies at the Danish School of Arts and Crafts. He moved on to work at Fritz Hansen, for about a year, where he designed a number of noteworthy chair prototypes. In 1955, Kjærholm started collaborating with manufacturer Ejvind Kold Christensen, which lasted until his death in 1980. In 1982, Fritz Hansen took over the production and sales of "The Kjærholm Collection", developed from 1951 to 1967, designs, which are logical to the minute detail with an aura of exclusivity.

The PK20 is covered in your choice of leathers.

Poul Kjaerholm

Poul Kjærholm (1929 –1980) began as a cabinetmaker’s apprentice and had a particular interest in various construction materials. After studying at the Danish School of Arts and Crafts, he worked briefly for Fritz Hansen, designing many notable chair prototypes. In 1955, Kjærholm began a lifelong partnership with manufacturer Ejvind Kold Christensen. After Kjærholm’s death, many of those pieces were handled by manufacturing firm Fritz Hansen. However, in 2004, Kjærholm's son established Kjærholm Productions, to produce those items of his father's furniture that Fritz Hansen had discontinued production of in 2003. Kjærholm’s designs are in the permanent collection of the MoMA in New York, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and other museum collections in Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Germany.
Fritz Hansen was established in 1872 by the visionary cabinetmaker of the same name. Since then, Fritz Hansen has become a natural part of both Danish and international design history. Today, it is an exclusive and international design brand. The history of Fritz Hansen is characterized by stupendous craftsmanship, unique design and an inherent sense of premium quality. Leading architects and furniture designers from all over the world have regularly contributed to the collection with beautifully shaped and functional furniture that seamlessly meet through the use of innovative techniques and new materials. Arne Jacobsen, Poul Kjærholm, Piero Lissoni, Kasper Salto and Morten Voss – the stellar string of designers is long and the list of furniture of classic and iconic fame is even longer.
